Healthy Growth for the Community

Message from Our Minister Reverend Mary White

Good Day and Blessings!

It takes patience when planting seeds. We nurture the seeds until a sprout appears and with excitement the work continues.

Watering, fertilizing, replanting, and of course having a talk with the sprouts encouraging growth are all requirements of healthy results.

This is very much like the works of ministers. We plant seeds of ideas.

Then, someone takes the seeds and brings to fruition wonderful results that benefit all. Generous ministers allow the credit for the idea seeds to be given to those who do the nurturing.

Does it really matter who gets the acclamations?

The end result is healthy growth for the community.

We are blessed with many in our community of faith with a variety of skills to offer. So don’t be shy about encouraging the nurturing of seeds with your abilities.

With Love,
Rev. Mary White

Dear Parents, Families and Friends,

As a child growing up my family always went to the same campground in Parksville each year. We went with the same group of family friends, and there were often the same visiting families from other places there at the same time as us each year. Existing friendships were deepened, and new friendships were made, and the memories of those good times live on to present day. I still feel a need to camp in Parksville each year, and I continue to run into people, last year here in Powell River, and this year in Courtenay, who date back to those days in my childhood. We recognize each other, and the conversation soon turns to describing some antics in the campground, and those warm feelings come flooding back to my heart as the images of those memories come flooding to my mind.

Do you have favorite summer memories? I encourage you to share them with your children and youth and enjoy the bonding that can happen when we tell stories, in person, with each other.

Reading • 2 Corinthians 10:15-18 (MSG)

We’re not barging in on the rightful work of others, interfering with their ministries, demanding a place in the sun with them.

What we’re hoping for is that as your lives grow in faith, you’ll play a part within our expanding work.

And we’ll all still be within the limits the Creator sets as we proclaim the Message in countries beyond Corinth.

But we have no intention of moving in on what others have done and taking credit for it.

“If you want to claim credit, claim it for the Creator.”

What you say about yourself means nothing in sacred works. It’s what Creator says about you that makes the difference.

A Way to Celebrate

Mel and Rose Chatwin, long-time members of Powell River United Church, passed away in Aldergrove in 2019 and 2020. The family will be in Powell River the week of September 20th, and would like to reach out to friends of the Chatwins who may want to come together to share a few memories. Date, location and time will be determined based on projected attendance.

Reading From Ruth Burgess’ Book “Summer”

It’s A Funny Old Journey

It’s a funny old journey, the journey of faith. Does faith change or do we?

Those things that seemed so important when we started out have given way to other issues.

The deal-breakers become the room-makers, the passions we held become mellowed by the passage of time as we learn and grow, as our hearts swell with love.

And as we begin to understand better the Creator who lives beside us, who will not be fettered by any limits that we place on compassion.

The Creator who calls us to ignore the limits too. Who promises that, one day, it will all become clear.

But, until then, we should carry on loving along the way.

It’s a funny old journey.

PRAYER

Creating Spirit

We are grateful for the variety of gifts that are represented in our faith community. Give us the strength to take up the seeds and use our gifts with compassion and love so that we can all enjoy a growing faith environment. May we continue to nurture a community where all are appreciated no matter how much or how little they are able to offer. Let us be a loving church that practices the teachings of the Higher Power whom we follow. We pray these through Love and faith that we see results.

Amen
